My grandmother used to tell me to never miss an opportunity just because it comes dressed in coveralls and looks like work. This phrase came to mind a while back when a phone call was placed to the Alair Homes North Shore office from our good friend Angela Robinson asking for help to build a 12 foot high free-standing 144 square foot dining room.
Additionally, the structure needed to be specially designed for test assembly, then dismantled and re-assembled twice more. We quickly agreed to donate our time not only because the project sounded intriguing but because the Dinner by Design event is in support of the Dr. Peter Aids Foundation, after which it will be displayed at the Interior Design Show West.
The Inspiration Behind the Renovation
Angela Robinson’s dining room design was inspired by the Wailua Fern Grotto located on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai. Geometrically intricate walls are an abstract representation of the jagged rock enclosure with 60 ferns descending from the ceiling overhead. Simple earthenware and natural furniture further highlight the setting of this peaceful space.
With the generosity of Dick’s Lumber we began construction, in West Vancouver, a few weeks ago and are now ready for the big event taking place Sep 21st and 22nd 2014.
So, if you have a chance, come visit us at the Dinner by Design cocktail night, public viewing or gala dinner, and see all of the amazing dining rooms that will be on display.
Or you can view the dining room at the Vancouver IDSwest event which runs Sep 25th to 28th 2014, and while you’re there make sure to stop by and see us at the Alair Homes booth.
NOTE: Dinner by Design is organized by The Social Concierge Agency.
