There are a million and one faucets out on the market right now. Heck, just do a Google search for “funny faucets” and you can see all sorts of creative and amusing faucets. That’s what I did, and it amazed me at what people have come up with. If you think about what a faucet is though, it’s no wonder people have taken them and made all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes and sizes out of them. At the end of the day all you need is a valve and something for the water to pour out of. So what makes a good faucet?
What is Your Faucets Main Function?
Let’s start off by saying that one of the first things to consider is what you are looking for, or what purpose is this faucet going to achieve. Kind of a deep question for a faucet, but if you think about it, it makes sense. I am not talking about some deeper spiritual explanation, the question is where are you using it and who is going to use it, and even how long you plan on using it for. This is an important question because it will significantly narrow your otherwise overwhelming search. For example, if this is going in your laundry room down in the dark cave that is the basement, the faucet you pick for that room will be drastically different than the one in your en-suite bathroom which is your haven. If you are flipping a house, you may not opt for a more expensive faucet that will last a lifetime. You see, already we are narrowing your search dramatically!
So what makes a cheap or expensive faucet? Like I said earlier, there are really only a couple components to a faucet, so lets look at those components to answer our question. It’s also important to state that there are crazy cool faucets that have digital temperature settings, LED lights to make your water glow different colors, touch control and Bluetooth enabled ones that connect to your iPhone and tell you what to do today while you brush your teeth (actually, I’m not sure if that last one exists yet), but even those are just made up of a valve or two and a spout for the water.
