With summer time here, we are all heading outside to enjoy the warm summer weather and the natural outdoors. When some of us venture into our backyard we may not be enjoying it as much as we could. That’s when you might want to think about creating your own backyard oasis.
Elements of a Backyard Oasis
Everyone has their own idea of what encompasses the ideal backyard. You are limited by your imagination (and pocket book of course). There are common elements, though, that every backyard oasis should include:
Lounging Area – This could include a deck or patio area. It may also include an awning or pergola for shade. Planning the location to take advantage of any views is always a good idea.
Dining Area – This also could include a deck or patio area. Again depending on the sun exposure you may want to include some kind of sun screening. Allocating a portion of this area to include a barbeque would complete the area.
Gardens – No outdoor oasis would be complete without gardens, trees and shrubs. It doesn’t have to be all work when you think of gardens. Adding perennials and low maintenance shrubs will cut down on the amount of gardening time – leaving you more time to enjoy it!
Water Feature – Adding a water feature is the last piece of the oasis. Nothing is more relaxing than looking at or hearing the sound of running water. A water feature can take many forms: a fountain, pond, waterfall wall or a babbling brook.
A Work In Progress
The last thing is – take your time and enjoy the process. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your garden oasis doesn’t have to be either. Get you inspiration, pick what you like and start. Enjoy the creating process along the way. Before long you will have created your own garden oasis!
