Our homes are our castles; they are places where we live, laugh and enjoy each day; however, there comes a time when we need and want more room. This can present a problem if we are not sure how to implement such plans. There are home addition ideas that can help expand your home such as creating a three-season room. A screened-in porch can enhance the use of your home; it can be a room where you can entertain friends and family without worrying about bugs and other pests. Home additions can add space, beauty, and value to your home.

Convert your garage

Most importantly, this can be an addition that can increase your living area without breaking the bank. Instead of installing glass windows, frame your windows with screens; no need to bother with insulation or drywall. Or, how about converting your garage into a lovely guest suite or Master suite? This will especially work if you live in an area where the weather is mild. However, even if you have cold temperatures, you could convert your garage into something wonderful and build a detached one later. Because you already have a foundation and walls and electricity, you only have to add insulation, drywall and a floor. You may also want to add more electrical outlets, install air conditioning and plumbing; however, you should have room for a lovely master suite and perhaps a bathroom. Or, you could use this space for an apartment for a family member in need.

In-ground swimming pool or outdoor deck

Another idea to expand your house is by installing an in-ground swimming pool. There are many options available and you can add other features to you pool such as an outdoor shower. With this addition, you need to plan for ongoing maintenance and the price of installation. To keep your pool operational, regular maintenance will be necessary. Or, you could also create an outdoor deck or patio. Many, these days, are also including with their patios fully functional outdoor kitchens; kitchens that have an oven, grill and refrigerator. Outdoor living spaces come in a variety of styles; you can even install surround-sound audio systems or beautiful waterfalls.

Add a second floor

Adding a second floor is another way to expand your house. If you live on a small lot, a second floor addition could work well for you. However, this expansion will cost more but it can add more space to your house. Keep in mind; for this addition to work, you house must be structurally sound and you will need a building inspector to approve the addition.

Create a large open kitchen

Most importantly, if you love to entertain and cook, you may be interested in creating a large open kitchen. For example, if you extend your kitchen three to four feet, you will create for yourself extra space. If you create a new exterior wall along the outside wall of the kitchen, you could have enough room to turn your kitchen into an eat-in kitchen or add cabinets. More space in your kitchen can add beauty and ambiance to your entire house.
