Every year the same! The weatherman predicts cold weather. Halloween approaches. We get our first Alberta warning snowfall in early October with threats from Mother Nature of what is to come.

Fall is a Busy Time for Home Renovations

For renovation contractors, the phone starts ringing. You hear panic in the voices of people who need work done. Desperation in their words of the project they left to the last minute. Don’t let this be you!!!

As a contractor, this time of the year becomes incredibly busy for us, even more than the spring fever rush. Our sub-trades would be over loaded with the requests to complete all of the work we could potentially have for them. This is not a good time to hire most contractors. We have unfortunately been turning down a lot of requests for work recently as we don’t want to sacrifice the quality of work that we are providing.

When considering any trade or contractor in these times, be cautious! Pricing always seems to be inflated. Both with the overload of available work and the desperation in your voice, the price for waiting last minute has gone up. Plan ahead. If you have ever tried to get your winter tires mounted on the day of the first snowfall then relate to this form of panic and availability.

Using our design and estimation process, we can properly plan ahead for construction. We will have all our pricing held by our trades and be able to schedule accordingly to the fast approaching winter. Certain materials like concrete and masonry can have serious costs related to winter installation. Hoarding and heating are not cheap but curing temperature conditions for these materials are imperative for quality and warranty. Stucco as well may add $10,000 to your siding costs for hoarding and most stucco installers will not even apply product in these conditions.

In the climate we live in, we must plan ahead. For advice on when may be the best time to start a home renovation or custom build, please contact us and we would be happy to offer advice. Bundle up!
