North Vancouver Island in the summer boasts of wild waters and even wilder animals: cougars, grizzly bears, eagles and wolves can be found wandering through the pristine and largely untouched forests here. As if that was not enough, North Vancouver Island also gives visitors and residents glimpses of the majestic orcas that play along the coastlines here. Naturally, it is a playground for those who love sports like kayaking, scuba diving and even caving. Here is a glimpse of the cool things to do here during the warmer months of 2018.

1. Visit the Rainforest

Who says you have to go to the Amazon to experience the rainforest? The Great Bear Rainforest is home to the Kermode or the “Spirit Bear,” and a grand place to have an adventure. Tour the area safari-style, or take your boat out and paddle your way through the glacial fjords until you reach the natural hot springs. Perhaps even catch a glimpse of the elusive Kermode bear. This rainforest is the only place on earth where this majestic animal can be found.

2. Kayak With the Orcas

If you are a kayaker, you will not want to miss Telegraph Cove and Johnstone Strait. It is not only home to some of the best kayaking on the North Island in the summer, but also more than 150 orcas. Rent a kayak and get out to see the whales up close. This is one adventure you will not soon forget.

3. Take a Grizzly Bear Tour

Nothing is quite as majestic as seeing mama grizzly bears with their cubs against a backdrop of lush green trees. The experience is, for most, once in a lifetime, and a must-do if you are visiting the North Island during the summer of 2018. The Grizzly Bear Tours introduce the grizzly to area visitors, taking them to a variety of settings, which allow visitors to get a complete look at how this amazing animal lives.

4. Go Hiking

Just about anywhere you end up on North Vancouver Island is suitable for hiking. Although you can certainly set out on your own adventure, there are also touring outfitters that can guide through some of the most interesting eco-tours this region has to offer. Hiking the West Coast Trail allows you to immerse yourself deep into the forest and to trek the miles and miles of beaches before nightfall pulls a blanket of stars over the horizon.

The North Vancouver Island counts as one of the most pristine places on the North American continent. It is a place where killer whales swim the waters, where the elusive “Spirit Bear” calls home and where you wander through some of the most pristine, untouched lands in the world.
