There are many events going on in Nanaimo during the holidays, so the options are endless. The opportunities to gather your family and spread some holiday cheer can be found through the city. Here are 7 of the must-attend events of this holiday season.

Blue Christmas

This event, presented by the minister at First Unitarian Fellowship of Nanaimo, Rev. Samaya Oakley, will be held on Saturday, December 19th, 2015 at 7 pm. Join the community with words of joy and holiday cheer, while everyone enjoys a warm cup of soup and sing holiday songs. The Fellowship has 24 beds that that are available as winter shelter for homeless people in the area. So while you come to gather and enjoy the festivities, we ask that you remember the less fortunate and offer a donation of a non-perishable food item to fill the pantry for the holiday season and feed those who come to the fellowship for a good meal.

Anonymous Art Fundraiser

Come on down to the Nanaimo Arts Council at #4 Commercial Street in Nanaimo and have fun supporting a local fundraiser. The Nanaimo Arts Council will have art on display for purchase from November 26, 2015 through December 31, 2015. The Council is open from 12 noon until 4 pm, Thursday through Saturday, with a opening reception scheduled for 7 pm on November 27, 2015. Enjoy a wide selection of food and claim your door prize as you browse through paintings and pottery donated by anonymous artist.

Christmas in the Golden Age of Radio

Sit back and experience the pop culture highlights of the 1920s all the way thru to the 1940’s view the Nanaimo Museum’s extensive collection of radios in their exhibit and participate in hands-on experiences that bring to life the history of Nanaimo. The event will run from 10 am until 5pm between December 14, 2015 and December 19, 2015.

Gift Wrapping Fundraiser at Nanaimo North Town

Let someone else do your gift wrapping this holiday season. Between December 7th, 2015 and December 24th, 2015, the Wellington Band students are raising money for trips and festivals by operating a gift wrapping booth in the center. You will found the booth across from the Guest Services desk, which is not far from London Drugs.

Hip Hops Toys for Tots

Come out on December 19th, 2015 from 8:30 PM to 1 am and show support at this fundraiser. The local Hip Hop community is throwing a concert, with performances by local artists and a special out of town guest. Enjoy music, comedy, acting and participate in a silent auction and a 50/50 drawing.

Drop-In Science Studio

Allow your kids to explore and interact with the displays and activities of the studio’s exhibit. Drop in any time between 9 am and 12 noon on December 19th, 2015.

Nanaimo Theatre Group

The Emperor’s New Clothes– This Pantomime is a simple Christmas tradition. Come out between December 18th, 2015 – December 20th, 2015 to the theater and watch this classic fairy-tale come to live on stage.
