Looking for the best neighbourhoods in Maple Ridge? If you are thinking of moving to Maple Ridge or want to build a house here, there are many wonderful areas to choose from.  Finding the best location for you and your family comes down to personal preference, lifestyle and other specific needs, including proximity to transit, schools and shops. After living in Maple Ridge for over ten years, here are some of my favourite areas.

Silver Valley

Located in the northern part of Maple Ridge, Silver Valley is known for its natural beauty. It’s a fast growing neighbourhood with newer housing nestled in among the trees at the base of Golden Ears Park. Many homes here offer mountain views and are close to outdoor recreation areas like parks and trails.  So if you like to spend a lot of time outside, this could be the place for you.

Thornhill

Situated in the eastern part of Maple Ridge, Thornhill offers a mix of rural and suburban living. There is also a newer developed area of detached homes on larger lots, with some townhomes sprinkled throughout.  Thornhill has always been known for larger properties, often with acreages.  Above all, it has a peaceful, community-oriented atmosphere. If you’re looking to build a larger dream home, this could be the perfect place.

Albion/ Kanaka

Albion is a family-friendly neighbourhood in southeast Maple Ridge. It definitely feels a bit more urban than Silver Valley or Thornhill. It features newer developments with a variety of housing options, including single-family homes, townhomes, and condos.  Albion also has good access to amenities like schools, parks, sports fields and ice rinks. And it’s home to various shops, restaurants, and services. Lots of stuff to do here if you have a family with children.

West Central

This area includes the downtown core of Maple Ridge and offers a mix of older and newer homes. It is surrounded by traditional homes and communities that are continuing to grow with the times.  West Central is also convenient for those who enjoy being close to shops, restaurants, and community services. What’s more, you’ll find a variety of residential home styles in this more densely populated area.  If you don’t have a vehicle and like to be close to the action, West Central could be the ideal location to live in.

Webster’s Corner/ Whonnock

Webster’s Corner/Whonnock is one of the more remote neighbourhoods of Maple Ridge.  Think more trees and hills than homes – definitely rural vibes! The properties here are spread out with lots of acreage and even hobby farms.  This area is also home to Maple Ridge’s newest farm to table restaurants. You’re minutes away from multiple lakes and trails yet nature is at your doorstep. This is a great area in which to build your dream home surrounded by the great outdoors.

Hammond

Located in the southwest corner of Maple Ridge, Hammond has a historic charm. It features older homes and heritage buildings. Bordering Pitt Meadows and close to the Fraser River,  it has a strong sense of community. Hammond Stadium Park is in the heart of this community and the City is always upgrading and growing this part of town. We’ve done many renovations in this area of homes that are in need of an upgrade. We’ve also added second floors for that added space. Lifestyle Considerations

Once you’ve narrowed it down to a few areas, we recommend visiting each neighbourhood at various times of the day to get a real feel for the location. Some things to consider:

There are so many great parks and schools in Maple Ridge. Make sure to do your research on an area that will best support your young or maturing family for years to come.

My Experience Living in Maple Ridge

I’ve been living in Maple Ridge for over a decade. One of my favourite things about this area is the sense of community. Maple Ridge is growing at quite a fast rate, but the local community vibe is still strong. So don’t hesitate to chat with your neighbours!

There’s also lots to explore here, I love being able to go the trails for a quiet escape.

Lastly, Maple Ridge is a place where you can have your say in how the community evolves. The City wants your engagement in the shaping the future of our active outdoor communities surrounded by nature.
