Concrete Flooring

Concrete flooring is one of the best options for a home. Older homes may have old wood flooring that has been covered. If this is the case, it’s wonderful to refinish the old wood floor to create something new. However, other homes typically have concrete under their carpet and padding, which means they’re more than half way finished to creating the perfect, durable and stain-resistant flooring. Special machines are used to polish the concrete with diamonds. This process can include the use of stains prior to polishing, which can create the desired effect or look. Unique patterns can be made on the concrete to resemble tile, it can be made to mimic marble, or the entire floor can be stained a solid color.

Once it has been polished, the floor will have a high shine to it. Concrete flooring is easy to clean, and it is durable. All that’s needed is a broom and a damp mop.

Slate Tiles

Slate tiles bring Mother Earth indoors. Slate tile is an option that is not chosen as much as other types of tile, but it looks absolutely fabulous once installed. Slate tiles are natural, which means they offer a wide variety in rich color. You will find shades of gray, bronze and brown throughout the tiles. Because the tiles come in a variety of colors, they can be mixed and matched to create a unique look in the home. Paired with lighter Earth-toned walls, slate tile provides warmth and relaxation as a natural element in the home. The feel on the bottom of the feet is wonderful. Slate tile does need to be sealed. Epoxy Floor Paint

This option of flooring has been less explored, but its practicality is making it increasingly desirable to use in the home. This type of flooring has been traditionally reserved for the garage and the driveway, but given its outstanding benefits, many smart homeowners have extended its use to the interior of the home.

Epoxy floor paint is more durable than other types of floor paints that can peel relatively easy because of the special polymer bonds it creates as it cures. Epoxy floor paint is essentially flexible, and it bonds well with subfloor surfaces. This means that tools and other heavy objects can be dropped on the floor without damaging it, which is why it is used extensively in the garage. Further, when this type of paint is used on concrete, it prevents dusting from occurring. Dusting happens when heavy objects move across concrete, which cause particles to become loose from the flooring. This debris spreads to all other surfaces and is a hassle to clean.

Epoxy floor paint is water resistant, stain resistant, mold resistant, and it is wonderful to clean. Like the other two types of flooring mentioned, a broom and a mop are all that’s needed. If your home was entirely water resistant, you could even use a hose to spray this type of flooring down.
