Adding space to your Edmonton property is a great way to make your home more enjoyable and increase your property value. If you are considering a move in the future, the right addition can turn your home into one that is desired by Edmonton buyers and reduce the amount of time it remains on the market.
When considering a home addition, it is important to make the right choices. Always add on to your home in a way that enhances the beauty and usability of the space but also matches the architectural details and property values within your neighborhood. It is also important to finish your Edmonton addition professionally and follow all zoning and permit laws throughout the building process.
I had the privilege of spending a couple days with Jamie Affleck, owner of Alair Homes Edmonton, and it was a good time to say the least! Jamie’s office was one of the first Alair Homes franchises and hearing some of the stories of those first days, in comparison to what it is today, is really quite jaw dropping! Jamie said to have such success in a short period of time is accredited to being a part of Alair.
A big disappointment for me is when I see another company do a custom renovation or custom home and the TV components are there for everyone to see. (TV components being defined as anything the works in conjunction with your TV like a DVD player, blu-ray, receiver etc.) The days of showing how physically large your stereo system is has come and gone. Now days customers are looking for a clean look, TV centered nicely on the wall and the components hidden away in another room or in the cabinets near by. This can be achieved with some simple planning before drywall and the technology of an RF remote.
We recently had a client purchase an older home in the Edmonton, Park View neighborhood. When we were initially brought in as general contractors, the scope of the project was to renovate the main floor; however, when doing a review of the existing roof we discovered a stunning view of down town Edmonton (seen below). This lead the homeowners to a unique question, is the new proposed second floor renovation cost justified by the increased value of the full second floor with a view? This question has to be asked, because even though our clients are not looking for a quick flip, they still need to know if cost vs. the value is within an acceptable range.
