The Art of Increasing the Life of your Home
For most of us, our house isn’t just the structure we live in− it is where we gather with those we love, where we hold our most precious belongings. It is our family’s protection against all those storms the day throws our way. And given that, we at Alair want to make sure your safe space is solidly built and stands the test of time, so you always have a structure that shields you from stress, rather than causes it.
The Need for Regular Maintenance
But in order to get there, every house, just like every vehicle, needs regular maintenance. However, we understand that homes don’t come with a flashing “check engine” light; those little repairs and assessments can be easy to overlook when you’re distracted by more pressing matters like family game night, holidays, or weekend soccer practice.

Homes Built to Last
That’s why at Alair, we take care to provide the strongest bones for your building, in the timber-framed posts that support your patio, or in that sturdy roof that always keeps out the rain. We hand select tight-grain Douglas fir and treat the ends with a brown-end cut wood preservative to fight rot and mildew so you don’t have to. As well, we also place our posts a minimum of six inches from the earth or concrete to keep moisture from attaching to (and attacking!) your structure. Within the bracket, posts have positioned a minimum of an eighth of an inch away from the base to ensure moisture doesn’t become trapped on the underside, and allowing for beneficial air flow. We know from experience that keeping the wood humidity-free is the best way to guarantee that, regardless of what wind and weather batter against it, your house will stand and stay strong for years to come.
While there are multiple methods of preserving the life of your home, it’s important to protect your structure from the very beginning. Not only does this take the pressure off maintenance in the short-term, but it also ensures your home, and family, will thrive in the long run too.
